North West Green Party

Greens stand in Nearly one third of council seats

12 April 2010

There will be local elections in a number of boroughs in the North West on May 6th, which is the same day as the General election.

The Green Party is fielding 165 candidates in total across the region, including full-slates of candidates in Liverpool (32 candidates) and

Trafford (22 candidates). Other boroughs with high candidate numbers are Manchester (25) and Wirral (22).

This total is close to one third of all available council seats in the North West.

The Party's best chances are in:

- Liverpool, where Tom Crone is very well placed to join the City's 2 existing Green councillors in St Michaels ward, and last year's lead Euro-election candidate Peter Cranie is standing in Greenbank

- Manchester, where Gayle O'Donovan aims to get Green representation back on the City Council in Hulme

- Halton (Widnes), where Derek Mellor has been gaining ground on the Labour incumbent.
