Peter tells Independent "A Green vote is a vote for jobs"

03 May 2009

Peter Cranie campaigning - credit David Ashdown IndependentThe campaign to beat Nick Griffin in the North West gained steam this weekend with Peter Cranie campaigning on the streets of Cheshire, and a major article in the Independent.

Peter spoke to the Warrington Guardian while he was campaigning in the area, and pledged to help bring the free home insulation scheme introduced by the Greens in Huddersfield to towns throughout the North West if he is elected in June.

He said:

"One in four pensioners (a figure from Help The Aged) spend their winter in one room. It is a disgrace. Green politics can save people money and help the environment. We are saying let us cut your bills. This is what we can do at a local level. It’s a win-win situation."

Today's Independent carries an analysis of the North West region and the battle for fourth place, picturing Peter campaining in the region (above). Peter told the paper's Political Editor, Andrew Grice, why he is focusing on campaigning for green jobs in an effort to stop the BNP taking advantage of the recession.

The article says:

Mr Cranie, the Green Party's national spokesman on children, schools and families, has jobs as his main campaign theme. "A Green vote is a vote for jobs," he said. Accusing the BNP of "dog whistle politics", Mr Cranie added: "In an environment of economic fear and insecurity, the seeds are being sown – racism and intolerance – by a party that in its constitution bars any person because of the colour of their skin and the home of their ancestors."
