We didn't stop Nick Griffin - but thanks for trying

The results didn't come in until 3am on Monday 8th June, and the counting went right down to the wire, but the sad fact is that the North West now has a BNP representative in the person of Nick Griffin.

The result is given below and, under the d'Hondt proportional voting system, the figures show that less than 2,000 more votes for UKIP or just 5,000 more Green votes would have beaten the BNP to that final seat.

Our efforts certainly made a difference. The results in Manchester and Liverpool, where our adverts appeared and many other anti-racist activities were taking place, were dismal for the racist party, with Green votes outnumbering BNP votes by about 2 to 1. However, in the end it wasn't enough.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the campaign, all who gave their support, and all those who gave to the advertising appeals. We nearly achieved something incredible.
